Four years ago, I stood as an independent candidate in the local government elections.

I was allowed to spend just over £1000 to let the eight thousand electors in the Canonbury Ward who I am and what I stand for.

(That equates to aprox. two ¼ pages in the local newspaper, the Islington Tribune).

At the same time, those candidates representing the main political parties, whilst notionally restricted to the same figure per candidate, had the benefit of all the monies spent by their national party machines to generate publicity and bolster their campaigns.

What a farce – no wonder so few independents ever make it.

Here’s the ad and flyer that secured me over 200 votes – I didn’t
come last!
